Graphyte Concept
This two-mode sport-utility
hybrid is designed for the SUV consumer of
the future. Supposedly more efficient then
others in its class; this is because the car
is designed to save fuel in both the long
haul and the stop-and-go situations. The Graphyte
boasts a V8 engine, a Hydromatic automatic
transmission, and an all wheel drive capability.
GM has announced in the past that it would
release its first hybrid in 2007, and the
power plant would be found in popular full
sized SUV such as the Yukon. This continues
the trend of slipping hybrid plants in past
bodies instead of creating a whole new line
of vehicle (such as when Honda created the
Insight). One thing for certain is that as
future vehicles begin to include high-tech
options like ultra-high compression ratio
and Late Intake Valve Closing (LIVC) they
will become more and more expensive to fix.
From a visual design
standpoint the vehicle looks like a typical
egg-shape of its fellows, except that the
narrow point of the ellipse is at the rear
instead of the front. Combined its shape with
22-inch wheels and a blunt yet raised rear
and you have a shape that you will either
love or hate. The interior of the Graphyte
is luxurious, which means that no matter how
fuel efficient the future is, our bottoms
will always be high on GM’s list.
