BMW B7
Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen
GmbH is an automobile tuning company based
in Buchloe, in the Ostallgäu district
of Bavaria, Germany specialising in BMW cars.
Alpina was founded by Burkard Bovensiepen,(b.
1936) who is still the CEO. BMW
vehicles modified by Alpina retain their entire
BMW warranty. A distinctive feature of Alpina
cars are their 20 spoke alloy wheels. Most
recently Alpina have produced a version of
the current BMW E60 5 Series called the B5,
which rivals the BMW M5. The B5 offers a different
take on performance and how to get it: unlike
the V10 M5, the Alpina B5 uses a supercharged
V8 which produces similar horsepower but has
far greater torque.
The BMW E60 automobile
platform is the basis for the 2004 5-Series
of automobiles. It replaced the BMW E39 for
2004. Models available at launch include the
520, 525, 530, and 545. All models received
an engine upgrade for 2006, with a 550 replacing
the 545 in the fall of 2005. The e60 is avaliable
in both saloon and touring platforms. The
exterior of the design by Chris Bangle and
Adrian van Hooydonk is controversial, especially
the "Bangle-butt" rear. Its iDrive
system is simplified compared to that of 7
series. It can be ordered with options such
as Active Cruise Control (adaptive cruise
control) and Active Steering.
